This gst rate calculator lets you enter an amount, pick a rate such as 5%, 18%, 40% or 3%, and either add GST to a price or remove GST from a price that already includes it. It shows the taxable value, the tax, the CGST and SGST split for a sale inside the state, and the IGST for a sale to another state.
You will find it right after the facts panel; every sum is done on your own device and nothing leaves it. Below are the formulas it uses, how to work out GST on MRP and on gold jewellery, and common mistakes. If you are unsure of the rate, look it up first in the GST rate finder.

The formulas behind the calculator
| Task | Formula | Example at 18% |
|---|---|---|
| Add GST | Tax = amount x rate / 100 | Rs 10,000 x 18 / 100 = Rs 1,800 |
| Total with GST | Amount + tax | Rs 11,800 |
| Remove GST | Taxable value = amount x 100 / (100 + rate) | Rs 11,800 x 100 / 118 = Rs 10,000 |
| Tax inside a price | Amount x rate / (100 + rate) | Rs 11,800 x 18 / 118 = Rs 1,800 |
| Split inside the state | CGST = SGST = tax / 2 | Rs 900 each |
How to calculate gst on MRP
The MRP printed on a pack includes all taxes. To find the GST inside it, use the remove GST option: tax = MRP x rate / (100 + rate). On a pack with an MRP of Rs 105 at 5%, the tax is Rs 5 and the taxable value Rs 100. Tobacco and pan masala use this retail price method too, at 40%; see tobacco.
How to calculate gst on gold jewellery
Gold jewellery is 3% on the full value of gold, stones and making charges. If the gold value is Rs 60,000 and making charges Rs 6,000, the taxable value is Rs 66,000 and the GST Rs 1,980 (Rs 990 CGST and Rs 990 SGST). If the customer hands over old gold for a new piece to be made, the goldsmith's fee is taxed as job work at 5%. See gold.
Common calculation mistakes
- Adding GST to a price that already includes it. Use remove GST for MRP and inclusive quotes.
- Taking 18% of an inclusive price to find the tax. The correct share is 18/118, not 18/100.
- Charging CGST and SGST on a sale to another state. Use IGST instead.
- Rounding each line differently. Round the tax on each invoice line to two decimals and add.
